Cinsy’s Story

Site created on August 7, 2023

Thank you for your love, support, and prayers as we navigate this unexpected and scary time in our lives.  Things have evolved somewhat rapidly, and we haven't really wrapped our heads around it yet.

Cutting to the chase: Cinsy is scheduled to have brain surgery on Tuesday, August 15 at UF/Shands hospital in Gainesville Florida.  The surgeon will be removing the golf-ball-sized meningioma tumor that was discovered on July 19, 2023 during a CAT scan that was intended to identify any blockages in her sinuses. The surgeon told us that the tumor will continue to grow and will eventually cause impairment of her vision, motor issues, and/or seizures, so it needs to be removed.

If all goes well, Cinsy will spend a few days in the hospital, followed by three or more weeks of out-of-commission at home recovery.  Her surgeon is optimistic for full recovery (95% likely). We are very confident in his ability and in the team at Shands. That said, this is a scary time for us. Please pray for all to go well on Tuesday.

We don’t know when Cinsy will be up for talking to people or responding to texts and emails, but we would love to hear from you and keep you posted through this CaringBridge.

Much Love,

Cinsy & John

Journal entry by John Krehbiel

It's been 6 weeks since Cinsy's brain surgery, and she is doing much better.  Her vision processing issues are much, much reduced, although she still "loses" the left-most letter of some words when she is reading.  She can read on a Kindle as long as she makes the font pretty large.  Also, Cinsy has done some driving, but is only going when there is not much traffic and no causeways yet.

Most days, Cinsy is quite a bit more tired than she used to be, but she is able to do most of the daily basics of life like getting to Publix.  We've done a few family get-togethers, which have been nice, but we're usually the first to leave.  Although she is making progress most days, she has to be patient with herself on the more difficult days.

Thank you for all your prayers, love and support.
