Cindy’s Story

Site created on June 24, 2023

Many of you are aware of the journey Cindy, Steve, and their sons have been travelling. This CaringBridge site is being started now because it has become increasingly difficult to keep all the caring family and friends up to date with what’s going on. Here is a bit of background for their story:

In the fall of 2022, Cindy began experiencing discomfort and bloating. A trip to the ER brought the troubling diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Appointments, prep, and more consultation led to a plan to fight the cancer. Six rounds of chemo were scheduled. Surgery to remove the tumor and any affected parts was planned for midway through those treatments. It was hoped that the chemo would allow for greater success with the surgery. The surgery happened February 13 and chemo resumed shortly after. Scans in early April showed the initial chemotherapy wasn’t working so a different chemo protocol started at the end of April.

The past month has proven especially difficult. Cindy continues to focus on her treatment and doing all she can to stay strong. We will provide updates to this site as the journey continues. Thank you all for your continuing love and prayers.

First, the outpouring of love and support has been humbling...the thoughtful comments and outreach is so appreciated and will be remembered for a long time. 🙏

To let everyone who cared about Cindy know, we have created a team to participate in the MN Ovarian Cancer Association (MOCA) fundraising walk on September 9th under the team 'Cindy's People' to raise money in honor of Cindy.

MOCA focuses on
  • Early detection, better treatment and a cure
  • Creating awareness for early signs of ovarian cancer
  • Support resources for people dealing with this cancer
  • Education
MOCA provided support resources for Cindy. In a conversation with MOCA, I was disturbed to learn that many cases of ovarian cancer are diagnosed in an ER, just as Cindy's was. This needs to change.
