Cindy’s Story

Site created on September 6, 2018

Updated Nov 2019——-Hello friends. On August 22, 2018, my life changed forever and startlingly . After finding a lump on self exam, I scheduled a diagnostic mammogram, followed by a biopsy. That began weeks of testing... MRIs, PET/CT Scan, Echocardiogram, EKG, and lots of blood tests and questions and answers. My diagnosis is Ductile Mammary Carcinoma, Stage 3a Breast Cancer, HR (hormone) negative, HER2 (an aggressive protein which attaches to already hyper cancer cells) very positive, with a large tumor (10cm or 4 by 1 inches😞) and 2 affected underarm lymph nodes. No other metastasis has yet been discovered. My course of treatment was TCH P (Taxotere, Carboplatin, Herceprin, Perjeta) chemotherapy every 3 weeks x6, ( a very tough course). Mar 12, 2019 I had a double mastectomy, leaving me with tissue expanders. Next, in June I had a wicked rough radiology for 28 days, 5 days a week lasting 6 was. I continued HER2 chemo infusion meds every 3 weeks until September. Next I will have an exchange surgery in early 2020. It is a gruesome surgery and I am a little freaked out about it.
My hair has grown back like a rock star! It is so very thick and curly, unlike my waves before. It is mostly gray and I colored it .
All treatments and surgeries have been at Northside Cherokee Hospital in Canton, Ga. My Doctors are fantastic. They communicate and move quickly, working very well together. The cancer center is great and they help many people with kindness too.
September 27, 2018 I began chemo. I have lingering symptoms like fatigue that comes and goes and can be debilitating), peripheral neuropathy ( hands and feet are tingly, hyper sensitive-affects balance), chemo brain ( memory and word recall, balance), and some minor things.
Bob is my hero and rock. We sold the bakery in March 2019. He is my Uber driver and is my kind, patient helper. He is doing house and car projects. I am getting creative again wit drawing, painting and house fun like Christmas crafts. I excel at over-doing it and Hallmark movies.
My prayer request is upcoming exchange surgery quick healing and no complications. Not worrying that this will come back while learning my new normal. Strength regained while walking, etc.
Please pray for courage, strength, healing, and God’s pure peace. My faith is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness. Jesus>cancer

Journal entry by Cindy Mossey

Hi my precious friends and family.  I have had many questions about how I am liking living in Bluffton.  We are absolutely LOVING it here!  I cannot believe how beautiful and calming it is here.  I am doing very well physically.  I am walking as much as I can.  I try to walk every day.  I adore my neighborhood and we make new friends almost every day!  It is amazing how social it can be just walking.  I am playing some tennis and Bob is woking on cars in his new garage.  Yay!! It is a safe and wonderful way to deal with CoronaV.  Our house is just as I had dreamed of!  It is full of light and the perfect size.  We are getting our decorating and furniture in order for a soothing home.  Not there yet.  We are living in the Bluffton community and not really Hilton Head although we go there sometimes.  The beaches are there and we are near the May River.  I thank God every day I wake up.  I am really as happy as this sounds and so is Bob.  Someone told us that living here would add 20 years to your life and I can see why.  People golf, play tennis and pickle ball, bocce, and whatever else is outside.  We sit in our driveways in circles and most people are careful here because we are all in that high risk category.  This is really an active, happy community.  We need a golf cart!!

I have prayer requests for some friends please.  Our friend from the bakery, Lisa has a son Patrick.  He is 15.  He had synovial sarcoma, a soft tissue cancer.  He was great for some months but he just was told that it has spread to his lungs.  We are  so saddened to hear this.  It also happened in about 2 months from a clear scan to a scan full of nodes.  It is scary stuff so please pray for this happy, Christian, loving boy.

My friend Ellen (College friend from Florida) , who is battling stage 4 melanoma got a clean scan!  Hers had spread and she was hit hard with some mean chemo and it worked.  She is now on maintenance.  Let's pray that she continues to be blessed with a long and healthy life.  She is a sweet, adorable person with the heart of a Lioness.

My cousin Darlene, who is also my dear friend, has Lewy Body Demetia.  (the one Robin Williams had) This is a shocking and mysterious news.  She needs our prayers that science can help her and that there are some studies or something new that can stop this awful disease.  Her father, my Daddy's brother, is also suffering from demetia and is in his 90's so the family needs your prayers.

So I have a heavy heart as my friends deal with some tough diseases.  We are all believers and we are all in His loving hands.  He walks beside us and gives us strength against all odds.  God bless all who are walking in the valley.

With love and the hope that your family is well
