Journal entry by TAMI MCGRUDER —
Cindy has been in an assisted living facility now for about three weeks. I met with her 'team' (along with her) yesterday, and it looks like she's going to need around the clock care indefinitely. Lu is in good spirits for the most part, but she was pretty devastated when she realized that she would not be going home. I am not very satisfied with the facility where she is currently living, & am looking for alternatives.
Lu has serious brain damage that affects her safety & ability to care for herself. She acts impulsively, (trying to stand up & walk around...the nurses found her in a linen closet yesterday!), and her reality is on a different level. She remembers & recognizes people; family, co-workers, etc., but her imagination, much of the time, takes her to different places. Conversations with her run the gamut. Focusing on anything is nearly impossible for her.
Again...she is content & upbeat. I'm not sure about how much info she actually retains. She still asks me to take care of her car, although I've told her repeatedly that it was totaled in the accident. She also asked me to make sure to give her cat a lot of love...because she knows her cat is missing her. She does not have a cat...
I will write again soon...
