Chuck ’s Story

Site created on September 26, 2023

In July 2023, Chuck received the diagnosis of invasive high grade urothelial carcinoma including the muscle of the bladder. There is no evidence of spread of cancer to other areas outside of bladder and ureter. However surrounding lymph nodes will be also taken at the time of surgery for testing.

He is scheduled for surgery on September 27 at Mayo in Rochester and the plan is to remove the bladder, prostate and right kidney, as it is also compromised and not working enough to save it. A permanent external urostomy bag will be placed that will be connected to the left kidney.

The dr anticipates a full recovery and good quality of life as Chuck has been so fortunate to be a healthy man. We look forward to seeing him regain full strength again also! His pleasant acceptance is a joy to be around.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Rod and Vonda Williams

Tuesday, January 2nd, was another full day of appointments at Mayo…starting the day with a stent replacement procedure.  This will be a standard procedure now every three months. It replaces the drain stent from the kidney to the urosotomy bag.  We learned the current stent was plugged and that was likely causing the infections that he couldn’t get on top of. The dr replaced it with a larger one this time and hopefully this is the solution to the infections causing the high fevers. The other appointments consisted of lab work and chest ct scans to keep an eye on all areas to make sure there’s no signs of cancer. Chuck started immunotherapy treatments on Wednesday, December 20th, and has already had his second one on Thursday, January 4th. He is tolerating them very well with no side effects showing up.  As much as he’s been through, we are still amazed at how well he’s doing!  Our weather has been so mild, so he’s been able to take leisurely drives out to see what the guys are up to on the farm. He even drove a tractor home the other day after the guys finished pumping a hog pit. Good therapy 😁 The next appointments at Mayo are early March, so if all goes as good as it is, we’ll be updating again then. Thanks for being here with us! ❤️
