Charles “Chuck” Vernon Alexander Sr., 69, of Summerville, SC, passed away peacefully in Charleston, SC, on Aug 13, 2018surrounded by family and close friends.

Chuck was born June 12, 1949, in Cincinnati, OH, to Doretha Burton and Horace Alexander. He wed his childhood sweetheart, Rosetta Sims, on Dec. 13, 1969He enlisted in the US Air Force in Nov. 1968, and served 26 years before retiring as a Senior Master Sargent in Nov 1994.  Chuck started a second career with the South Carolina Employment Commission where he worked for 21 years until his retirement Aug. 2, 2018. 

Chuck was a people person, committed to a life of public service. He was a Vietnam War VeteranAfter retiring from the Air Force, he continued his public service work as he embarked on his second career helping disabled veterans find employment and transition back into civilian life. Chuck served as a volunteer coach and supporter for Tri County Elite Cheer and Dance where he was affectionately known as Uncle Chuck. He also served as the president of his neighborhood homeownersassociation and previously served as president of the board of directors of the South Carolina Chapter International Association of Workforce Professionals.  

Chuck is survived by Rosettahis wife of 48 years, his sister Pat Lee (Alan), his brother Stanley (Sharon), and children Charles(Kris) and Tamara Cheatham (Dondre)He is also survived by his grandchildren Sydney, Avery, Alex, Krista, and Chris. Chuck was preceded in death by his mother Doretha, his father Horace, brother Donald, and son Donald.

A memorial service to celebrate Chuck’s life will be held Sunday, Aug. 19 at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, 7396 Rivers Ave., N. Charleston, SC.  He will be interred at Carolina Memorial Gardens, 7113 Rivers Ave. N. Charleston, SC immediately after the memorial service. The family requests that those who wish to honor the memory of Chuck make a charitable donation to the Friends of Fisher House Charleston, www.friendsoffisherhousecharleston.org, 150 Wentworth Street, Charleston, SC.
