Newest Update

Journal entry by Lisa Lucas

Sorry, that it has been awhile since I posted an update. We tried to get back to some type of normalcy over the holidays and I have tried to stay off social media because it tends to cause increased stress lately. Chris and I were able to go on our Anniversary trip in December that I had purchased last January prior to his diagnosis.  We had a wonderful time and memories to last a life time! We taped up his g-tube with water proof dressing and he was able to swim with the dolphins, manatees and sea lions on Isla Mujeres. We went to Tulum to see the Ruins. We zip lined, repelled and snorkeled in the Cenotes .  Got to see and have lunch with a Marine buddy and his family in Cancun.  We hated coming home to the cold weather and ready to move somewhere warm year round, which we say after every trip we go on😊

Chris had his follow up PET scan and was able to get his G-tube removed the day before New year but leaving his Port in for now.   They were  not able to use the iodine contrast on Chris’s PET scan due to his kidney function. His creatinine is still running around 3.5 and GFR 19 which is not good. Hoping they will still heal and just in shock from the chemo. Pet scan was a slightly limited study since he was unable to have the iodine. He was able to have the radioactive markers and unfortunately it did show that he still had some uptake in one of the tumors and in one lymph node but in those they had both shrunk and were much smaller. The other lymph nodes and tumors did not show any signs of cancer and it had not spread anywhere else in his body which is wonderful news🤗. After speaking with 2 out of the 3 oncology doctors we decided to wait another 3 months and repeat PET scan hoping the tumor/lymph node were actually still in the process of dying. He has his 6 month PET scan scheduled for the last week in March. Praying that his kidneys are going to heal enough to have the contrast for a better diagnostic test and hopefully show us that all the cancer is dead! After PET scan if any questionable cancer remaining then we will discuss the best options to move forward with either surgery, chemo, radiation or mixture.   So, we appreciate all the prayers we can get🙏🏻❤️.     More good new is that Chris was able to go back to work on 1/10/22 after being off since beginning of August. He worked 9.5 hours a day M-F and just took it slow. He came home and fell asleep right after the first 3 days and then a little more energy the last couple days. His employer SAMCO has been wonderful to him and we greatly appreciate them! They let him stay off work after his FMLA had ran out and kept him on as an employee. They paid his part of his dental and vision premiums that he carried and gave him a Christmas bonus even though he hadn’t worked almost half of the year.

We are planning on going to the SPEAK THEIR NAME hump in Cali for the gold star families to remember those who gave their lives for our freedoms in April. We will be going on what we call a booze cruise with our marine family prior. Hopefully it will be a big celebration trip  w/o the big C hanging over us still.  But no matter what, it’s always a celebration spending time and letting off some steam and stress with the devil dogs! Semper Fi!   Chris is strong and we will fight to the end and live our lives to the fullest with no regrets for the next 30-40 years🥰🙏🏻
