Christine’s Story

Site created on June 9, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. Will and I are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. It was becoming overwhelming to update my ever changing health issues in so many places. I was starting to lose track of who knew what. I am hoping this website will help ease that worry and stress a little for me. Will and I so very much appreciate your support and words of encouragement.

My story as most of you know started on January 6, 2021 when I woke up at 3:30am having a heart attack. I have had three stents placed in my heart during two separate procedures in January. Two in the 100% blocked circumflex and one in the LAD 2 weeks later.

Shortly after that I had my throat scoped to see what was causing my worsening voice issue.  I had been told a couple years ago that it was scar tissue from severe reflux.  This January I was told it was an HPV papilloma.  We had to wait for my heart to heal enough before having surgery.

During surgery May 17 it was discovered that it was not HPV but biopsy showed a rare form of lymphoma.

This is where the updates I have been sending ended.  The rest of the story will be continued in the "Journal Entry" part of this website.  You will want to keep reading because it just gets weirder.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Christine Wood

It has been a year since my cancer diagnosis. I have recently been to both my oncologist and otolaryngologist and both have given me a thumbs up. I will have a head and torso CT scan in November for the oncologist and I don’t see the otolaryngologist for a whole year.  I was very fortunate to have an easily treated lymphoma. I will always have deficits in my throat. My body has filled in the area around my vocal cords with extra tissue. It is healthy tissue just not supposed to be there. I also have the amyloid plaques that we don’t know how to remove but the thought is that they came from the lymphoma so I should not be creating any more. My limitations are with projecting my voice and vocal fatigue at the end of the day and with exercise. I lose my voice easily with coughing and exercise. But I no longer have to increase pressure just to talk and I have a voice so I’m happy.  The only limitation that I have right now is a bum hip from an injury years ago. I will be having surgery to remove a calcified labrum and replace it with cadaver. I’ma little concerned about my throat since I will need to be intubated. The surgery is July 26. A bummer for sure but not life threatening this time.
