Journal
I'm happy to say that I am home! I wound up spending five days in the hospital, which was more than enough for me! I didn't get a private room this go around, which was a bit of a bummer. Fortunately, I had a good roommate! Since I was in a post-surgical unit, I figured that an empty bed next to me on a Saturday would mean a private room for the weekend. I foolishly forgot to consider emergency surgery cases. My roommate, Ellie, was crossing a street and had gotten hit by a pizza delivery van. She is pretty banged up, but all things considered, she was very lucky! If you have room in your prayers, I know she'd appreciate wishes for her speedy recovery. We spent the first few days keeping quiet, which was kind of silly considering that only a curtain separated us and we could each hear everything the other was saying anyway. By the last day, I sat on her side of the room and we talked for much of the morning. :)
My next baby goal is to re-introduce food: I've gotten as far as cream of wheat and poached eggs (not together, of course!) I know right away if I've gotten too ambitious, so I guess it'll be a lot of trial and error for a while.
It is hard to believe that it has almost been one year (8/21) since this odyssey began! I am so grateful to have had the support and friendship of so many to make this journey so much easier! And, I am hopeful that most of this is now in the rearview mirror!
I go back to the doctor right after Labor Day (which is fitting this year, considering it is John's birthday!). Before then, I look forward to focusing on back to school, kids starting jobs and importantly, these last few weeks of summer! I hope you all enjoy them as much as I plan to!!
