Today was a bit exciting and emotional all at the same time for Christina.
PT group still kicked her butt. Even though its tough work, I think she appreciates the level of activity and the gains she's seeing from group. In TR, she painted a ceiling tile to leave behind in her room. Surprise, surprise, it was an abstract of Harry Potter himself.
She continued her therapy with her hand and fingers in OT. I can tell this is not Christina's current favorite session because of the discomfort when she works on her hand and arm, but I still marvel at her strength to push past the pain to gain improvement.
Lunch came and went, then she had her last neuro-psych meeting. The emotions kicked up a bit, as going home was brought up. As much as she's ready to go home and move forward with day neuro therapy, she really has made some connections here with a few nurses, techs, and therapists.
Which brings me to PT. She had a double session today, because her PT will be absent on Thursday. With no therapy scheduled on discharge day, this ended up being her last PT session with her primary PT. Christina has grown attached to her PT, and I would be remiss to not mention her PT's fondness for Christina. She did her final PT evaluation and was graded, and from what I could tell, it went swimmingly. Her PT will be there on Friday for discharge to say "see you later', but that didn't stop her from giving Christina a very sweet hug, while whispering that she was so proud of her. Some tears fell, but it was a day of celebration.
Christina was awarded a red badge (she can get up on her own with no help or guard, walk around her room, and take herself to the restroom)! She also was upgraded from her hemi-walker to a 4 pronged cane. This provided less stability, but is lighter and easier to manuveur. Of course, this means her walking, strength, and balance have all dramatically improved, as these changes are not made lightly.
Two more sleeps, one more day of therapy. The clock is ticking.
