Journal entry by Christie Derrick —
My day started very early with bloodwork at 6 am followed by a CT scan. Then I had the modified barium swallow test and the last appointment was with my radiation oncologist. The barium swallow test went well and even showed slight improvement from 6 months ago. The best news was that the CT scan results looked fine and the oncologist said I seemed to be doing really well.
He did a scope to view my vocal cords and they are fragile and weak from all they've been through, but still hanging in there for now. I need to be diligent about my daily vocal exercises (not a pleasant sound, trust me - even my dog, Pickles, gets annoyed) to keep the vocal cords flexible and functioning for as long as possible.
We are so grateful that the second round of post treatment scans are clear and now we breathe easier for another 3 months until this starts all over again. As usual, you guys have been so amazing with your supportive texts, messages and all your prayers. I have felt the strong power of your prayers and was surprisingly very peaceful going into these appointments today.
We got back to Atlanta tonight and are going to bed tired, but full of gratitude.
Thank you so much for caring about me and following along,
Christie
