Today marks the 10th anniversary of Chris’ Grand Adventure. It is hard to believe that 10 years have come and gone since Chris was sick. As I have said several times today 10 years ago was yesterday and forever ago.

So much has happened since the battle Chris fought and won with the H1N1 flu. So many good days and some bad. But even on bad days at the end of the day Chris is still alive. Not only alive but healthy.

So many things have happened that there is really not enough time in the day to write them all down. But here are some highlights.

Chris went on to graduate from SDSU but 1 semester late.

He went to the University of Idaho and received his Masters Degree.

He married the love of his life, Mallory in 2012.

He became a Game Warden in South Dakota. His dream job.

His 1st daughter, Evelynn, was born in 2016.

His 2nd daughter, Elinor, was born in 2018.

There is so much more that can be told but the important stuff is all above.

I am pasting below a Facebook post from Chris that he put out today. As he says thank you to everyone for anything you did for Chris or our family during the Grand Adventure. Without all of the help and prayers we would not be where we are today.

Thank you all for your love care and concern for our family.

Doug

Ten years ago today, I entered into a battle for my life. I have no memory of that fight. I only had to deal with the aftermath. I can only imagine what my loved ones both family and friends experienced. You prayed and had those prayers answered. For that I am eternally grateful. The lord told me I had things yet to do.

He placed me in the hands of an expert team of caretakers. From doctors, to nurses, Cnas, flight crews, and the countless other people who keep a hospital running and clean. They took care of not only me but my family. And my family was supported by countless people. Family, friends, and complete strangers. Without that support I would not be here today.

I have been blessed in so many ways since then. I married the love of my life. And we have made so many amazing memories. I have 2 beautiful daughters who light the world with their love and happiness. I have made so many wonderful memories with my family. I finished my undergraduate degree and went on to get my master's degree. I have the job of my dreams in the most beautiful part of South Dakota.

I still carry the scars from my battle and have more from battles fought since. But the scars are a reminder of battles one and lives saved.

I again want to thank you all for your support and prayers no matter how big or small, they made a difference. I continue to try and do good with the second chance I was given. To my family and friends I love you and thank you for always being there for me.

Take care, stay safe, and God bless

Chris
