Journal entry by cindi cook

Well, Chris has headed back to the chair.  And not a chair at his favorite restaurant, but the chemo infusion chair.  The latest scan shows growth in the liver spot and more spots in the lungs.  We are grateful the lung spots continue to be small and cause no "effects" (i.e., labored breathing, etc.) but we hate they are not going away.  The doctor feels the best course of action is to continue the chemo pills 2 weeks on / 1 week off, and go back to infusions every 3 weeks for 4 treatments.   These are very powerful drugs, but with that power comes unwanted side effects - cold sensitivity, neuropathy, and nausea.  The neuropathy in his fingers and feet has never gone away from the first treatments, but his fingers were finally not horrible all the time (even though he was really getting his mad scientist rubbing of hand motions down!).  Cold sensitivity means that anything he touches that is cold, will hurt.  Its almost like having all over frostbite.  This means no more ice cream, a favorite treat, cold drinks, even air conditioning will be hard to handle for quite a while.   He had his first infusion last Friday, and the sensitivity kicked in immediately during treatment.  :(

As Covid begins to "let up", we are enjoying time out with friends which has been such a blessing.  (Even if we didn't win at Bingo!) We even got in a trip to Nashville in April to celebrate birthdays.  It was so nice to get out and about and pretend life was normal again.  If only cruising would start back!!

We so appreciate all your continued prayers.  People always ask "what can we do for you?"  I never quite know the answer to that question, other than pray, but I will steal from a dear friend who lost her husband, also a dear friend, 2 months ago to pancreatic cancer - She was telling us how "Your tributes and messages meant so much during his last days. I read all of them to him. I don’t know if we ever really express how much we mean to each other until a tragedy strikes. Please tell people that you love them, if you do. Please take a moment to tell people you appreciate them. It does bring comfort later."  So, "what can we do for you?"  You can make each day count.  Reach out to your friends and let them know you are thinking of them, send a note, make a call, have them over - no one remembers how clean your house is but they remember the fun times.  #creatememories

Love to you all.
