Chester’s Story

Site created on July 9, 2020

Welcome to the CaringBridge website for Chester Hart and family, created and run by Pastor Ben Hogue and Pastor Mike Wilker of Lutheran Church of the Reformation. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.  If you would like to support the Hart Family or have any questions, feel free to email Pastor Ben (hogue@reformationdc.org) and Pastor Mike (wilker@reformationdc.org). When contacting the pastors, please email your message to both pastors to ensure a response, as one might be away on vacation.

In June, Kim Hart contracted COVID-19 and a few weeks later, Chester did as well. Kim has since recovered and is back at work. In early July, Chester was taken to the hospital and after some tests, a blockage in his heart was found. On Monday, July 6, he had triple bypass surgery, which was successful. We will continue to post updates as they come in.  Throughout the recovery of the family, Reformation pastors, members, and friends of the family have been able to provide assistance and support as needed. Thank you for visiting. Your care and prayers are appreciated.

Journal entry by Michael Wilker

Hello, Friends of Chester!
I called Chester in the hospital on his cell phone today. I kept it short to save his cell phone's battery. (Texting is good if you want to send him a greeting. Or send him an actual Christmas card to go along with this Sunday's Christmas in July theme at Reformation.) Although it was a brief call, I was delighted to hear his voice.

His discharge is still planned for this Saturday. I'm not sure if he will go to a rehab center or directly home. I'll let you know on Saturday.

His COVID test from earlier this week came back negative. They are doing another test this afternoon to confirm. Friday, he will have surgery on his arm for the dialysis (which as you might know is a now routine part of Chester's care).

He was grateful for all your care and support, saying he doesn't have the words to express it.

We prayed to thank God for all of you. When I said Amen, he repeated it: "Amen, Amen. And you can turn that into a Hallelujah."
Patients and caregivers love hearing from you; add a comment to show your support.
