Newest Update

Journal entry by Katie Axtell

It's been awhile since we've provided an update.  Cheryl was scheduled for surgery in February.  Instead of surgery, there was a family meeting explaining that the two tumors had grown in size and it made any surgery extremely risky and they would not do the surgery.

Cheryl opted to try one of the original chemo medications again.  It's called the "Red Devil" and it lives up to its name.  She had the chemo treatments during the month of March.  After a lot of consults, prayers and a little divine intervention, the tumors shrunk enough that a new surgeon took on Cheryl's surgery!  Cheryl had surgery on Friday, April 12th.

The surgeon was able to remove the rest of the large tumor that was pushing on her kidney's.  She was also able to remove the smaller tumor.  She removed what she could see and did not do any exploring to find others.  She is up and walking around and fighting like none other.

Removing those tumors has given Cheryl more time.  More time to continue the chemo in the hopes of eliminating any remaining cells from the tumors they removed.  More time to try to prevent any new tumors.  More time to be considered for trails of any new medications.  More time.

It's amazing that she was able to have this surgery, after being told 4 times that it wasn't going to happen.  This particular surgeon was a god send.

Chery will continue recovering over the next month or so.  She will have a new scan done and then move ahead with more chemo after she's recovered.

Please keep the prayers coming strong.
