Cheryl’s Story

Site created on November 28, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.  As you may know, after suffering with back pain and nausea for most of the summer, and visiting many doctors and enduring many tests, Cheryl was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.   However, by God's grace, we are fighting, praying for and expecting a complete healing.

A favorite verse of Cheryl's...

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Other favorite sayings of hers...
"I don't need to be better than anyone else, I just need to be better tomorrow than I am today."
(Sign on Cheryl's board in her classroom)

"Everybody wants to have friends, its just that, not everybody knows how to be a friend. So be a friend to everybody."  (Cheryl's dad, Jack Stoner)

We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Journal entry by Tom Elliott

We had a great time with Nick & Kylee and Ashley & Elin up in Edmonton and Jasper the past few days.  Made it home last night to a nice clean house (thanks Mal!)
We saw lots of wildlife, took a tram up a mountain (and some of us climbed farther up), went out for a great meal, played a domino game and just enjoyed our time together.  We saw Big Horn sheep blocking the road, Elk and Deer right near the car (too close for Elin - frightening! - check the video at the bottom here), and lots of Magpies (right in Edmonton).
We also spent the day Sunday celebrating the Canadian Thanksgiving up on Jessica's (Cheryl's 2nd cousin) 10,000-acre farm.  We saw how they harvest the 600,000 bushels of wheat, barley and canola grains with their new storage and high-speed drying towers.  Amazing operation!
This week we go back to CTCA for more chemo and a couple procedures to address Cheryl's back pain.  Pray for success.
