Journal

This update is long overdue, I apologize for the delay.

Cherie finished her treatments at the end of February. Her MRI showed no regrowth of tumor tissue! Her specific tumor markers (DNA) do not necessarily respond well to the chemo, but since she has had no regrowth, the oncology team recommends six more months of chemotherapy to hopefully keep the growth at bay. Her next appointment is this Tuesday, April 9th where they will prep and schedule her dosing and follow-up. Cherie still has a lot of brain swelling from her radiation, but she is slowly recovering and getting back to doing the things that she enjoys.

Her first goal after initial treatment was to see her father in Oregon. Her daughter, Britt, and grandson, Wes, made the flight to see him 2 weeks ago. She was also able to travel to northern CA and visit with close friends, CJ, Rachel, and Ce Ce, and toured the Redwood National Park along the Pacific Ocean with them. She had an amazing trip and spent quality time with her loved ones.

Last night, I took Cherie for her favorite pizza, beer, and Final Four basketball. Her team (Purdue) won and she was happy for the experience. We discussed and finalized plans to travel to Lexington, KY in one week (with medical approval required first). Cherie used to live in KY; it's where she graduated from nursing school and started her nursing career. Our trip will include visiting with long-time friends, going to the Keeneland races, and exploring what KY has best to offer, including history, horses and bourbon.

Those are the high points so far. Cherie is looking forward to seeing more friends and family as the weather gets warmer. Her chemo treatments will likely weaken her immune system, so any visits she has will likely need to be outdoors.
