Life isn’t fair. There’s no logical reason to expect it to be.
We collectively know this, but it doesn’t stop us from lamenting the injustice of a situation when tragedy strikes. I used to counter the question of fairness with the notion that life is cyclical; good always balances out the bad, eventually. But even subtle belief systems create voids of confusion when life doesn’t play along. Sometimes balance is elusive. Sometimes life reminds you, there are no rules to this thing. You can do everything right and still end up the anomaly.
Statistically improbable doesn’t mean impossible.
I expected my next big announcement to be about a sibling for Rocket. I’ve been working on a new business and nesting in our new home. I so wanted that life, but those aren’t the cards I was dealt.
Apparently, the intensity of my last 7 years isn’t ready to pass the torch to peace. Beliefs can bend and stretch but none of mine can adequately justify why this is happening. I used to place certainty in the idea of an orderly universe. Now, I am only certain of one thing:
This is really happening.
