Journal
I haven’t posted here in a while, just been on autopilot and posting on FB. Chase had a rough time in May. Time in the PICU due to kidney failure from an allergic reaction to Bactrim (antibiotic). Then the remaining doses of chemo in this round required inpatient stays (awful) but he finally finished frontline or the first and most intense chemo part of this 3 1/2 year journey. Today we started maintenance which is only monthly infusions. Sounds nice right? Well he still takes oral chemos (yes more than 1) and for the next 2 weeks we will have to drive to Denver 3 times a week for chemo shots in his legs (again in August) I waited anxiously to reach this part of treatment thinking it will be so much better but for now it doesn’t feel like a break. I’m hoping Chase will do well with the oral chemo so some normalcy will creep in. We have 3 more years of this crap! The trips to Denver (3 hours round trip just driving), time off work, nasty chemo in his body constantly....it’s a little overwhelming at times. But he’s feeling pretty good, working his summer job and trying to get back into running shape for cross country. This is Chase’s new normal now. He still smiles and laughs daily which warms my heart (I doubt I could do that if I were in his shoes) He truly is an amazing kid! I continue to hope and pray he keeps the cancer at bay and continues his awesome attitude!! 💙
