Charlotte’s Story

Site created on October 7, 2023

Welcome to my CaringBridge website. I will be using it from time to time to keep family and friends updated in one place. Some of you may or may not be aware that I have not been feeling well for a while. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes because my blood sugars were high and I was really experiencing fatigue which is unusual for me. On September 27th I had a CT scan of my abdomen and pelvis and the results came back positive for Primary Pancreatic Cancer. To say the least, our world has been turned upside down in a very short time. We have met with the cancer specialist at The University of Kansas Cancer Center yesterday to discuss our options.

I am taking one day and step at a time. My life has been beyond blessed for 80 years with Ken at my side for 59 years and our three unbelievable daughters, Lisa, Michelle and Jill and their families who are always there when I need them. I could or would not be able to function without my faith in God. We all have our crosses to bear and carry. This is mine. Thanks to all of you wonderful friends and family! We will keep you updated when we have more information. Please keep all of us in your prayers as I am doing the same for you.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Ken Berndt

I can hardly believe that it has been almost 4 months have passed since my last post. Just wanted to give an update to everyone who has been praying for me and sending such encouraging messages. I’m doing pretty good most of the time. Especially between my chemotherapy treatments, which I am now getting every other week. I had repeat CT scans the end of April. They have shown another decrease in the size of the tumor in my pancreas and no further metastasis anywhere else.  The lab test for the tumor markers has further decreased down to 2,909 in January to 792 the end of April. My doctor said it shows that the chemo drugs are working so he isn’t changing anything for now.  I do have some neuropathy in my feet but it is minimal. The fatigue is still a problem at times but I respect it and rest when I need to but I don’t let it take over.

Was so very fortunate to be able to make it to Waco, Texas last weekend to see Bridget graduate from the Honors College Program at Baylor University. We also celebrated our youngest daughter,Jill’s birthday and Mother’s Day . All in the short time of 4 days. Needless to say, it was busy and took me a while to recover. I continue to thank God for the love and support I get from my family and friends. I continue to ask for your prayers.
