Newest Update

Journal entry by Mary Steinke

Good Morning! I decided to post a Charlie update since I have had so many great people reach out to see how he is doing.
I am happy to report he is making progress and continues to get stronger each day. He knows his limits now and has learned to take things much slower than before Covid hit him and knocked the wind out of his sails-literally. But the doctors are confident that he will get almost back to where he was before this awful event. He just has to be patient and smart.
He has had a series of tests including breathing tests, ultrasounds, X-rays, CT scans, and these will all be repeated mid-June. At that point the doctors say his lungs will probably be at max healing and we already know there is permanent scarring. But his oxygen levels and heart rate have greatly improved since he came home in early February. He still cannot make it all the way through Menards without stopping in the furniture/patio section and finding a chair to sit in but he will accomplish that goal. Most people use the gym for exercise. Charlie uses Menards!
His croaky voice has improved but that may be a permanent issue caused from the intubation.  He still has a horrible cough, especially at night, and daily nose bloods from the blood thinners but hopefully that improves once he can quit taking the medication. He has not fully regained his sense of taste and does not care for any of his favorite foods anymore so cooking has become a challenge. Covid does VERY strange things.
His capacity for beer 🍺 is 2-3 bottles very occasionally so he has a goal to improve that too.😂
In summary he is alive, in good spirits, and improving daily. Do not hesitate to reach out to him. He likes that.
And thank you to all the awesome people who continue to care and support us during this long recovery period.🤗
Enjoy the upcoming beautiful weekend! 😘
