Charlene’s Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. I posted why we got where we are below...

Good morning, all. First timer here, so be patient with me. After all of the reaching out and questions and such yesterday on mom, we thought this would be the best way to communicate with our family and friends.

We brought mom down to Monument Health in Rapid City and admitted her through the ER. In the past 6 weeks we have noticed a severe decline in mom's memory and speech. At first we thought maybe the Charleneisms had just been taken to a new level, but in short time realized it was something far more serious.

Mom has a tumor on the inner-side of the left temporal lobe directly on the hippocampus. Size apparently is not that important, but I understand how ya all think ;) - it is about the size of a pencil eraser. Hippocampus is responsible for just what mom was having issues with, so makes great sense. This tumor is considered deep and i am picking up on the "inoperable" vibe. That does NOT mean its not treatable.

At this time I am writing this from the hospital room in Rapid. The next step will be to biopsy the tumor and determine what the next steps need to be. She will either be getting this done this week - we will keep her here/or Monday (or so) - we will take her home and return ready to kick this things ass.

Mom is in good spirits - maybe not completely able to comprehend the seriousness of this....and thats ok by me.

We just ask for your prayers during this time.

My mom passed from this earth at 245pm on Sunday Feb 25th.  She was surrounded by our family and went peacefully.   Keep us all in your thoughts and prayers.    You have all been absolutely amazing during this courageous battle.  ❤️🙏🏿
