Chaitanya’s Journey

In 10/2020 Chaitanya (Dave) went into kidney failure and began his dialysis journey in 5/2021. Despite the ups and downs of dialysis, he stuck with it for the next few years. In December 2023 he lost his beloved mother, Rekha Dave, whom he had cared for over the past 20 years. Shortly after this he contracted covid-19 and was admitted to the hospital a day before his 68th birthday on December 23rd. While admitted to the hospital, he developed an incarcerated hernia requiring emergency surgery. 10cm of intestine were removed and he began his healing journey in the hospital until he was discharged to rehab at Spring Mill Meadows. The transition to the rehab and his usual dialysis center was a difficult one, with failures in his medication handoff and issues with nutrition. In 1/2024 he was readmitted to the hospital with a C. dificile infection that led to a perforation of his colon. He was rushed into emergency surgery again where he underwent a complete colonic resection and came out of the OR intubated and with an ostomy bag.

Since his two emergency surgeries, Chaitanya has had a prolonged and difficult hospital course. These invasive procedures left him incredibly weak and unable to take care of himself in even the slightest capacity. Given his decline in health and the long, difficult road to any potential recovery, Chaitanya is reflecting on what a meaningful life is. At this stage in the journey, he has decided to transition to hospice care.

Chaitanya is a proudly independent man but cannot complete this journey alone. The cost of hospice out of the hospital is significant, and all out-of-pocket. You can find a go fund me posted under the “Ways To Help” section. Please DO NOT give a tribute as this will donate to caring bridge and not the gofundme. Thank you for your continued love and support.
