Newest Update

Journal entry by Tracy Johns

Hello everyone

Lots of updating to do! Chad and Claudine stayed at the Shephard's Center in Atlanta Georgia for 9 weeks and Chad achieved so much from their center.  Claudine was able to stay in the room the entire time with him, they were very thankful for this. Katie and Bob were able to  visit for10 days, they flew into Virginia and drove their car to Atlanta. They were great company for Chad, Bob and Katie played games with him and gave Claudine a few days break to come home to take care of some things.

Claudine and Chad were amazed at the adaptive equipment and technology they had at Shephards. Chad was able to use a a pair of glasses that abled him to use his phone by blue tooth and a bite piece to move the arrows around. They had lifts and the best adaptive equipment that Claudine was able to get trained on. Chad went to therapy Monday-Friday, that included Speech, Physical, Occupational, recreational and a psychologist.

Chad no longer has a trach, he is breathing on his own. Woo Hoo! Go Chad. Chad did have some blood pressure problems while in Georgia. His pressures would go really low and very high, they call it autonomic dysreflexia for those that have spinal cord injuries.

September 2nd Chad was airlifted to Richmond Virginia to the VA hospital for 6 more weeks of rehab.  Once he completes rehab there he will finally get to come home, this will be first few weeks of November. He will be home just in time for the holidays. Katie will be coming to stay for at least a month for that transition to help Claudine.

The VA will help Chad with adaptive equipment for the house and his wheelchairs.

We are all excited for him to get home.

Thank you for the financial support that is ongoing. Chad and Claudine are very thankful and this will continue to help through Chad's recovery.
