Today was my first day at the hospital. I got up, ate some complimentary breakfast at the hotel, and took a shuttle to the hospital for my appointments.First up was blood draw. The tech was great and it was painless. Then I met with oncology pa, and she was wonderful. She explained side effects, prescribed some meds for anxiety, sleep and nausea, and went over my labs, which all looked pretty good. She gave me a certificate for a wig for when that time comes. Then I went to the infusion center. I had to wait awhile because I was early, but it was comfortable. I went back with an aide and she showed me around and brought me to my little cubicle area. There was a recliner (not the most comfortable) and a tv. They also had tablets to use if I wanted. They took my vitals, got me hot chocolate and water, and gave me nausea and anxiety meds. Then she explained the process. She placed the IV in my hand which hurt a little bit not bad. They gave me more nausea meds through my IV along with 2 bags of saline and Cisplatin. The Cisplatin can cause damage to kidneys so she explained it was important to get fluids in. I watched some tv, used the bathroom 3 times and fell asleep. Then the pharmacist came in and explained meds and the prescriptions that they were giving me. It was a pretty good experience. It lasted about 3 or so hours. Then I went downstairs and grabbed a turkey sandwich and coffee. Bad idea on the coffee. Next up was radiation, which I was in and out pretty shortly. I had a bad coughing spell (just got over influenza last week and still have a little cough) but was able to keep pretty still. I felt no side effects from the chemo or the radiation at that time. Then I went back to the hotel and decided to get some groceries of mild foods. I had to leave without the food because the coffee went right through me. I went back to the hotel and got cleaned up, and went downstairs to eat the complimentary dinner. I didn’t have much of an appetite, but that’s ok. I sat across from an older man and we talked a little about the hospital and I told him I will be going to hope lodge and he said it was nice there. I excused myself and went back to my room. It has been a good day. I talked to my kids on the phone and tried to play call of duty with my boys, but I wasn’t very good. I have had a little pain today, but it is manageable. Tomorrow I will have a ct scan for the lymph nodes in my neck, and radiation. I took a walk outside as the weather wasn’t bad but a little rainy. Now I am ready for sleep.
