Journal entry by Cathy Stirling

Greetings,
I hope each of you is well.
Today was my three week follow up from my Right Hip Replacement on July 11, 2022.
I had a most interesting series of X-rays, laying flat, on my back, with X-rays of my pelvis and both hips and my right hip by itself. Interesting to me the way the Radiology Tech can get one into a particular position for a certain test.  Being able to remain in that position also amazes me.  We worked together.
Then we met with Dr Mesko’s teammate, Nurse Practitioner, Rachel, for my follow-up.
The coolest part was that Bruce and I got to see my new hip, on the x-ray, that was taken 30 minutes prior.  I was so amazed, happy, pleased, grateful and impressed.
It looked just like the pictures in the books and brochures I studied before surgery, showed it would.
We I also saw an x-ray of the new hip from the day of surgery and to me, they looked the same, to me.  That was the goal.  Yippee.
Now, I continue with all of the Home Health PT I’ve been doing for 3 weeks until August 8, 2022 and then I start Outpatient PT.
I am walking, with a cane now, for a week already.
I’ve worn TED hose almost 24/7 since surgery and as of today, I can wear them, as needed.
I am not driving.
As an FYI, for 12 weeks, after a hip replacement, patients have to follow strict protocols which include but are not limited to
When sitting,
no bending down (I use a grabber or reacher)
use long shoe horn and wear shoes that slip on ( cannot bend over to tie, buckle or fasten)
use a sock helper
When standing,
now that it’s 3 weeks, after surgery, I can bend IF I use the “Golfer’s Bend” and bend with the surgical leg behind me.  Otherwise, I use a grabber.  If I drop me cane, I can combine the Golfer’s Bend with a grabber.
When dancing,
not yet, 😂 LOL
More next time
