Journal entry by Lisa Schwinden —
Dear Friends,
Thank you for your support during this difficult time.
Mom has continue to decline physically. She is unable to stand or walk. She is able to sit in the wheel chair for meals and short periods of time.
Cognitively, her condition also is declining. She is able to repeat some responses, "Thanks for calling" "Have you eaten?" etc. Phrases she knew and used in the past but her speech is mumbled and often not understandable.
Some days are better than others as she interacts more when she's not tired.
When I was with her last, she perked up when I mentioned Notre Dame in Paris but did not respond to anything else.
Many friends and family have asked how they can help and we appreciate the thoughts.
We know that it may be difficult visiting her as she's not able to communicate but we appreciate anyone that is willing to stop by, say a prayer with her, hold her hand, etc. She is on the memory care wing (2nd floor) at St. Catherine's North (formerly Rosewood).
We also appreciate cards as dad will read them to her. They can be sent to their home and you can email/text me for the address.
This is a very difficult time for dad and any support you can give to him is also appreciated. A phone call, card, invite to a meal- would also be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your thoughts and support.
