About Cathy's diagnosis:
Cathy's breast cancer has been diagnosed as Stage 2, HER2 Positive, Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma.  There are a couple important things to keep in mind about this diagnosis.  First, it was caught relatively early, increasing the chances of successful treatment.  HER2 Positive means that the cancer is "feeding" on a protein that the body makes called HER2.  There is a very clear treatment for this type of cancer, and the success rate of that treatment is very high.

Cathy's treatment:
Cathy will be undergoing a single mastectomy on August 22.  The recovery period for that surgery is about 6 weeks.  At a later date she will begin chemotherapy, which will be on a schedule of once every three weeks for 18 weeks.  After the chemotherapy is complete, she will continue to receive an infusion of a medication called Herceptin every three weeks for 21 additional weeks.  The Herceptin has very mild to no side effects.

Journal entry by Cathy Oliver

Good morning all!
Had my fourth round of chemo - 2 more to go!
Can I just say that I am looking forward to having my "normal life" back - I look forward to doing a run outside in the sun with my music, I look forward to seeing and communicating with people outside of my house (seems everyone is sick so no leaving the house) - I look forward to driving to the office and getting lunch - I look forward to having me back!

So I had my chemo session on black Friday - and literally went into a chemo fog until about Monday - when I finally started to wake up I was pleasantly surprised to see snow on the ground.  As someone who never leaves the house anymore it looks so beautiful outside.

Thanksgiving dinner at my sisters was wonderful - it was nice socializing and eating (I could taste the food and I ate like I was going on death row).  Thank you Theresa for making that day special for me - I love you with all my heart.  (Even though you never log on here and read this!  HA).

Nate and I are looking forward to having some family in during the month of December - my cousin Susan and her love Rocki are coming from Minneapolis and I cannot tell you how excited I am to see both - it has been way too long!  My cousin Jeff and his son Leo and love Kirsten are coming in from Germany and I always look forward to my time and our party night!!! Nate Jr. his beautiful wife Joyleen and our heart little Tre will be here Christmas morning and we get to do presents with Tre - it has been some time since I have had a toddler opening gifts on Christmas morning - I look forward to it!!!

Next treatment - December 14th.

OH yes and I want a full body massage for an hour when all of this is done - I deserve a day of pampering!!!

Love to all!!!
