I made it through my first week home from the hospital. For the most part it went pretty smooth. There has been a lot of me learning how to get comfortable especially at night. I also have to learn to rely on everyone else in the house to help me get the things I need. I had my first post op visit back to Columbus on Monday. I also had to say good-bye to my surgeon. He left Ohio State to go to Duke University. I was so happy and blessed to have had him as my surgeon and was so glad we got this one done before he left. I will forever be grateful of Dr Sisk!! Besides some teary-eyed good-byes the appointment went well. Everyone was impressed at how well I was healing and how well I looked. They removed my wound vac and three of my six drains! They are optimistic that I will get the other three out next week. That is a good week and a half ahead of schedule.
The two week mark is probably the hardest for me. At least it has been after previous surgeries ( yes I have had a lot of them). I start to get very tired of doing nothing all day long and I always feel like my healing process hits a brick wall. This Friday will mark that 2 week mark so I am trying very hard to be patient with myself and take a lot of deep breaths. This too shall pass so I just have to keep putting one step in front of the other for a bit longer.
I also want to take a moment to thank everyone for all the prayers and well wishes. The hospital stay was a tough one for sure. There were definitely moments where I wished I had not had the surgery. Now I can’t wait to see what the final “product” looks like a few months down the road. I think I will be very happy. 😊
