Casey’s Story

Site created on January 19, 2022

In March of 2021, at 41 years old,  I was diagnosed with Synovial Sarcoma.  Together as a family we went through a long 9 month journey of extensive chemo therapy at Dana Farber followed by two major surgeries at Brigham and Womens.  We had an army of support behind us the entire way and we never once felt alone.  Since October I have been working hard at Physical Therapy to heal and get back to living!  In December I went back to work part time and January 1st I was so happy to return back to the office in person full time again.  How lucky am I to have a job I love so much that I couldn't wait to get back! I have been feeling strong and more like myself and was so hopeful for a better 2022 for me and my family.

On Friday January 14th I had my 1st post surgery scans and the results that we received today were not what we had all been hoping for.  My cancer has retuned . One of the hardest parts while I was at Brigham and Women's was keeping all of our loved ones updated. So, with the news we received today, Eric and I have decided that this will be where we share updates of our continued journey.

Journal entry by Casey Lavoie

One year ago today my oncologist told me that i had days, if that left to live. So my family did what they do and surrounded me and my family with love and prayer. The below message from my cousin Lisa was shared all over the world and I could feel every prayer from my hospital room.

Today instead of focusing on what I missed due to being in the hospital for over 8 weeks during 2022, I wan't to focus on what I was alive and here for.

-Our rescheduled family trip to Key West
-Bermuda Cruise with my girlfriends
-3 trips to Long Island to be with my family
-A week at Moody Beach with family
-Mak's high school graduation
-Moving Mak into Stonehill
-Seeing Mak play in her 1st collegiate field hockey game

Most importantly I was here to love my family and continue to fight for a cure to this horrible disease Synovial Sarcoma. Never let one Dr.'s opinion define your destination. Advocate for yourself and above all else pray!!!!
