Carson’s Story

Site created on November 19, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Carson was born with a heart defect called bicuspid aortic valve/aortic stenosis. We have always known that this would require intervention and the time has come. Carson is having open heart surgery at 1030 am on 12/14 (now 12/21) at Children’s Hospital in Omaha. This will involve replacing the ascending aorta to repair the dilation that has occurred after many years of having this stenosis. Also, the surgeon is going to attempt a valve repair. He feels this is the best option for Carson and we agree. We have a backup plan that involves a more extensive approach called the Ross procedure. We are praying that we do not have to do that but know it is also a viable option as well. Carson and all of the family appreciate the thoughts and prayers during this time. I will keep this site updated throughout the day Monday as well as through his stay at Children’s. They anticipate 5-10 days of hospitalization, we of course are praying for the lesser! Carson would love to see all of the prayers and well wishes from each of throughout his journey. Thank you for thinking of him!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Jeff and Chirsten Broz

Quick update. Carson is doing great!  He was having some dizziness and headaches so they decreased his BP meds by half and that has helped AND his blood pressure is staying down where they want it. So that is great news, the goal is to not have to be on the BP meds long term. We have a follow up echo and dr appt January 28 and praying all looks as good as we hope it will.  Planning to take him back to California the weekend of February 12!  Thanks again for the ongoing prayers and support. We truly could not have made it through the past few weeks without all of you!
