Carolyn ’s Story

Site created on August 1, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated on Carolyn in one place. Please feel free to share this link with others as we firmly believe in the power of prayer.

Carolyn had a very large stroke on Saturday, July 17th. She has been fighting hard at Emory University Hospital in the Neuroscience ICU ever since.  Doctors were able to successfully remove the blood clot from the stroke but that procedure then caused some major swelling on her brain that lead to her having surgery (right decompressive hemicraniectomy) that Sunday.  Thankfully, the surgery was successful and the swelling began to come down.  In the weeks since, she has had some setbacks but overall making a little progress each day.  Her ventilator was removed several days ago and she is using a tracheostomy collar and breathing on her own. This was a big step in her recovery.

We have been at her side and have been sharing kind texts, cards, and voicemails we have received with her. We often get a nod or smile. Thank you to all of you who are praying for her and have asked about her. We know what a dear friend she is to so many people.

Journal entry by Jennifer McKay

Yesterday Carolyn turned 75!! What a milestone to celebrate. Her friends came over and brought her lunch and cake...and sang and she had a blast. Her siblings all called, and she was showered with balloons, flowers, and lots of love. She says she will never forget the day and how special people made it for her. Happy Birthday Mom!
