Welcome to Carol Wickham’s CaringBridge Site
Sign In to Show Your SupportThe New Year is looking up. Since before Thanksgiving, Carol has been in ICU being taken care of by the wonderful staff at Mary Washington Hospital....and they have had their hands full. She went in with ecoli and pneumonia and ultimately diagnosed with Covid. When it hit, it hit. She was on and off the ventilator four times. Each time we would be excited and hopeful. But, she would be unable to sustain breathing on her own for very long. Finally, the New Year arrived. She was able to sustain breathing on her own with a little help, but no ventilator....AND... moved out of ICU! Unfortunately, she still cannot have visitors. The hospital is locked down. We'll deal with that as she is able to have short video chats. She gets tired easily. Looking forward, she has a long road to recovery. Respiratory therapy is first in line followed up with physical and occupational therapy. It's going to be a long road, but Carol is a tough cookie!
Stay tuned as we share her recovery journey.
