Carol’s Story

Site created on August 13, 2022

Welcome to our CaringBridge website for our beautiful & strong mother, Carol Klancnik.

July was a very hard month for our family. We buried our father on July 18 only to find out more hard news on Friday, July 22 about our mom. From many stressful months of caring for our father, our mother started to have digestive issues, especially with swallowing while eating. After waking up from a routine endoscopy procedure, she received news that was shocking. The doctor’s informed her they found a two inch tumor at the base of her esophagus, which was protruding into the stomach, thus causing her digestive issues. Our hearts and minds were not ready for news of this magnitude. After the biopsy and PET Scan results came back, the final diagnosis is Cancer. The type of cancer is: Diffuse Large B Cell Non Hopkins Lymphoma. Also, her PET Scan showed a renal carcinoma mass in her left Kidney that is unrelated to the lymphoma. There also is a possible nodule in her lung. The kidney and lung are not an immediate problem and will be addressed after her treatment for the Lymphoma.

Our mother is under the care of wonderful physicians here in Virginia who are consulting with specialist at Johns Hopkins Hospital Cancer Center. The doctors will have our mother in an RCHOP chemotherapy treatment. This treatment has a very good rate of 70% for curing her Lymphoma. We’ll take that. We’ll update everyone when the chemotherapy treatment begins. 🙏

With her warrior daughters by her side physically, mentally, and spiritually, we are praying our hearts out for a good outcome. We hope at the end of this journey, our mother will regain her strength to truly live her life to the fullest. All prayers are welcomed and much appreciated!

During this time our mother would appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement as she undergoes this new journey. If you would like to visit our mother, please let us know ahead of time. This is just a precaution because there may be times where she won’t be up for seeing people during her treatment. If it is a good time for visitors please see the address below. We just ask visitors to please be extremely vigilant with regards to our mothers health by not bringing in anything into the home that could compromise her immune system. Thank you for understanding. Journal entry by Lucy Giesing

Hello everyone. It’s been a long time since I posted about our mom. Her third chemo treatment went well. Unfortunately when she got home, she developed a rash which ended up being the return of her shingles she had from years ago. Last week she had her PET scan done. Her tumor has shrunk considerably to where you can barely see it on the scans!!! We are so happy that the cancer treatment is working for our mom. Mom will have three more chemotherapy treatments left to go through. We are so thankful she has tolerated everything pretty well so far.

Mom has appreciated all the letters and generosity everyone has shown her. It means so much to her, especially after all she has gone through these past few years.
Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers for a beautiful mom💕🙏 Blessings to you all.
