Caroljean’s Story

Site created on April 10, 2022

Caroljean was in  a horrid car accident on Tuesday March  29, half mile from her home, Wildflower Farm in Spring Valley, WI.  She was going home after days of being with Fran & family as Fran died on Shabbes, Sat March 26.

After the accident she was at Baldwin Hospital, transferred to Regions  and then Sholom TCU. She had a fractured T4. By Friday April 8 Caroljean was in so much pain, she returned to Regions, to the surgical ICU. On Sat April 9, in the wee hours, she had surgery due to a blood clot in her spinal cord. That is called a cord stroke.  In order to stabilize Caroljean, in order to prevent any further damage, and to minimize whatever consequences there were from the stroke, in order that Caroljean heal well, her t2 thru 6 vertebrae were fused.  She had some good days and then two infections started.
Currently, April 29, the overall medical approach is to treat the infection with antibiotics, to reduce cranial swelling in the brain through a drain which will be replaced by a shunt once the infection abates, and then to assess the spinal cord injury on mobility and begin rehab.

There is deep, non-linear healing of the body going on. Out of the crisis, yet not out of the woods. The healing woods, a good healing place for a Coventree.

Caroljean’s hebrew name is Tirzah bat Dinah vDevorah.

FYI: Emma, Liz, Harry, Sharon, and Alissa are keeping a tight caregiving circle until Caroljean gets out of the ICU.....that’s because things are not changing and are changing rapidly at the same time. This site will be updated daily until Caroljean gets out of the ICU. Thanks to everyone.. Yay all of us.

Good news! This morning Judge Rohl approved all of the revisions to Caroljean's Will. She said that our revisions maintained the sprit and intent of Caroljean's wishes. Getting her approval was a critical step. There are additions steps that will take place over the next several months, for example, the University of Rivers Falls (UWRF) and the University of Rivers Falls Foundation (UWRFF) have to get approvals from both the UWRFF Board and the Regents of the University Wisconsin system.  We have had meetings and visits with various Deans, Chancellors and assorted senior leadership so I don't think these approvals will be a problem.

I will continue to work with our attorney to finalize the conservation easement, which will ultimately be held by the UWRFF, and to put in place any additional agreements that we need.

The University plans to continue using the name Wildflower Farm. Over time, they will turn Wildflower into a living classroom. I have attached a DRAFT site plan of their vision for Wildflower. We have arrived at this point after months and months of work. I am thrilled that we have gotten this far, and I look forward to seeing  this classroom come to life, and I frequently think about how much I would enjoy talking with Caroljean about all this!

Please note that #16 on the site plan is Caroljean's grave site. The UW folks have encouraged us to turn her grave into a place for reflection and meditation. There are plans to place a grave stone and, perhaps, a bench. They fully understand that from time to time  various people will visit her grave site.

If all goes well, Wildflower Farm will officially become the property of UWRF this fall. Once it's official I will post a final update.
