Journal entry by Lisa Amato —
Carol had a good night last night and her stats have improved enough that they took her off of sedation around 5 am. The ventilator is no longer breathing for her, instead is acting as a C-Pap and only nudging her if needed to breath. At 11:15 am, they will draw blood and test blood gases, if still good numbers, they will remove the ventilator.
Rhonda and Lisa were invited to consultation with her medical team in which they reviewed current progress, status and plans. Everything continues to be determined hour by hour, with all indications that she will continue to improve. The Case Manager was in attendance and working with Drs. and family to begin transition plan, although premature medically, that is her job and she indicated that PIMC will work to ensure Carol's transition and on-going care is successful. This is often complicated with the Medicare system, so it is very good that Carol has a Case Manager working on her behalf.
Rhonda and Lisa spent some time with Carol holding her hands and encouraging her this morning, she is responsive and understands what we are saying. When Lisa asked her if she noticed how cute her Dr. is, Carol nodded.....now we know why her circulation has improved! She also responded positively when we told her that her brothers send their love and that Aunt Bobbie is coming to see her today. She nodded when we told her that Alex is coming to visit today. When Lisa told her that she loves her, Carol mouthed "I love you" even with the ventilator tube in her mouth (maybe because it was too hard to call Lisa a Pain In the Ass like she did during the last hospital visit).
More updates later today.
