Carol’s Story

Site created on October 15, 2022

Carol passed away peacefully in her sleep this morning at the Our Lady of Peace hospice in St. Paul.  We are so grateful to all of her dear friends who supported her during these past several weeks.

We are finalizing the obituary that will appear in the St. Paul Pioneer Press and the Moline Daily Dispatch:

Garner, Carol J., originally from Moline, Ill., passed away on Oct. 27, 2022 at the age of 66, in St. Paul, Minn. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard F. “Dick” Garner, and mother, Mary E. "Betty" Garner. She is survived by her siblings, Jim (Jenny) Garner, Nancy (James) Ebert, and David (Jill Seaholm) Garner; niece, Elizabeth Ebert; numerous cousins and countless friends. In 2019, Carol was diagnosed with breast cancer which spread to her brain in 2022.

Carol had a long career as a graphic designer, most recently at St. Thomas University. She was a lifelong artist who pursued her craft through a wide range of media, including calligraphy, watercolor painting, charcoal drawing, bookmaking, quilting, stone carving, and detailed etymological and scientific illustrations. Carol also enjoyed the outdoors, cooking, music, cats and sci-fi shows.

A celebration of life for family and friends will be scheduled soon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to your local Humane Society or animal shelter. Her family expresses their gratitude to her caregivers at Our Lady of Peace hospice.
