Journal entry by Laurie Bridges

Hello to all.

I have debated posting here since mom wasn’t a fan of social media, but she DID create this account and I am ultimately deciding that stories need endings, so here we are.

Mom fought the hardest of anyone I know, but as it eventually will for all of us, the end finally came for her on August 3rd in her home. She was not alone. My kids (Ted and wife Deborah, and Claire) were by her side and Amy and I were there via technology. She knew they were coming and I believe in my soul that she waited to get to see and say goodbye to them.

Mom had decided to become a hospice patient in last week of her life. No further treatments, just comfort and a promise to get to stay in the home she loved for as long as possible. Amy and I had both recently visited to care for her after her last hospitalization. Her brother Skip and his wife Lynn had recently visited, she had been visited by Trish, Lynn, and Hallie and been in touch by phone with her brother Don and his wife Mary. Many other friends and relatives stayed in touch by phone and text often and that was important to her (despite her protestations about it being Grand Central Station around here!)

She had a truly loving and dedicated group of local friends who were the only reason it was possible for her to have stayed at home. They shopped for her, took her to her appointments, kept her company, watered her plants, moved furniture around so she could have safe paths in the house, and kept us informed of her condition regularly. We will be forever grateful for these friends become family for their gifts to us though our mother.

Everyone we meet leaves a footprint in our lives and mom would be surprised to know some of the random people that have been impacted by her. Those of us left to remember her aren’t surprised at all. ❤️

As soon as I can figure out how, I will add more pictures of Mom and I welcome you to do the same. I think you can get to the gallery where I will put more.
