Journal entry by Carol Featherstone

Today, I have so many things to be thankful for! In July, 2022 I was diagnosed with colon rectal cancer. I started radiation in August and completed that series in November 2022. I had a test and began Chemo in January 2023. I completed that series in April 2023. We thought I had kicked it then and had 6 months to rest until the 2nd sigmoidoscopy showed cancer cells. My surgeon told me he hated to have to tell me, but I was going to have to have the surgery. I dreaded it, but I had the first in December 2023 and had the reverse February 2024. This morning I met my surgeon for my post opp visit. He spent much time with me talking about everything from our first visit with him until today. He checked my incision and said how good it looked and what a great job I had done checking my dressing each day. I have to continue to do it every day until the weekend and then just neosporen and a bandaid. He declared me in good health and the surgeries were successful is ridding my body of the cancer. He has given me the go ahead to return home when I gather more strength and ready to make the trip. It’s going to take some time for me to get my strength back, but I’m going to do whatever it takes. God has driven this journey and I can finally say the end has arrived. Keith said last night he had had a talk with Him in the very beginning and he assured him I was going to be ok. I was sitting on the deck at my sons this afternoon and just feeling the warm sun and seeing the leaves budding on the trees. It’s the little things that matter now and that I seem to notice more. I just want to yell in my loudest voice, thank you God for my life. I thank my family for all they have done. My daughter, Michelle, has been an angel and everything she’s done has just been amazing! My son, Nick, has opened up his home to us the last 4 months and has taken good care of us too. I can never thank them, my grandchildren, and my bonus children who have all been the greatest cheerleaders! My friends who have all prayed , my church family who prayed and did so many wonderful things and my wonderful neighbors, Tammy and Steve Rondinaro for always being there for us! Thank you will never be enough! ❤️❤️❤️
