Carol’s Story

Site created on February 27, 2020

If you are reading this Caring Bridge website, it is because you are part of Carol and Rob Dickson’s very large circle of wonderful family and friends. There are hundreds of us, up and down the East Coast and many more are sprinkled across the United States.  Carol and Rob are very special to so many, many people, and that is why we have begun this journal on the Caring Bridge website.  We want to keep you updated on Carol's health and we thought that this would be the best way to do it.

I would like to introduce myself to you… I am Nancy Rowe, Carol’s college roommate, and I live in Salisbury, MD.  Though Carol and Rob have lived in Maryland, North Carolina and Florida, we have remained very, very close friends for the past 50 years. With the help of Trudy (Carol’s sister-in-law) and Rob, I will do my best to keep you updated with information that Carol and Rob would like to share with you.  (Please continue reading in the journal.)

Journal entry by Nancy Rowe

Dearest friends,

Rob suggested that I touch base with you one last time.  Over the past few weeks, we have been surrounded by Rob and Carol’s immediate family and closest friends.  We have talked about Carol so much, keeping those precious memories in our hearts and minds.

On Friday, June 10, we had a very small, private ‘celebration of life’ service. We enjoyed seeing lots of photos of Carol loving life, heard several of her favorite songs and shared plenty of happy memories, some of which made us cry and others made us laugh. It was a very simple service, just as Carol had requested.

Our plan is still to have a larger service in the future so that more people are able to celebrate her life with us.  If we are able to do that, we will post details on the Caring Bridge website, Facebook and notify several of the local art organizations.

Many of you have asked about Rob.  Needless to say, he is devastated and heart-broken as he knows that his life will be drastically different without the love of his life by his side.  As I said during the service, it’s hard to turn the page when we know that someone as special as Carol won’t be in the next chapter.  Carol and Rob’s pastor reminded us at the service how blessed we all were that Carol WAS part of our lives and how much she taught us because of the way she lived her life.  We hope that you will cherish the wonderful memories that you have.

With much love,

Nancy
