Journal entry by Steve Cook

Last week at work, someone asked me how Carol and I were doing and I went into detail how God has been intervening in our lives. Later I thought of how God has been changing my heart so that what comes out of my mouth is not about myself, but more and more about what GOD is doing. In amazement I thought "I was just bragging on God!"

I've been watching God "work even my goofs (which started out as attempts to do good) for the good"! For example, Carol's treatments came close to not happening. It was raining the day Carol was to get set up for her treatments, ( another cancer patient called it the "dry run"). I discovered that the wheel chairs at the cancer center are too low for Carol to get out of (not that I could have found out any other way) and my attempts to keep her out of the rain only made matters worse. Because the wheel chair was too low, it took some 7 nurses to get Carol out of the chair and positioned in the bed for the set up. On our way home, Carol said something to the effect that she didn't want go through w. it. Fortunately it was 2 weeks before the actual treatments started and she agreed to try it before she was allowed to say no. They sent us home w. the seat part of a Hoyer lift and a prescription for Lorazapam. I managed to get the seat part upside down when I brought her in for her first treatment, (but she was in her own chair so she was able to stand for them to get it right side up). The lift and the soft music and Lorazapam.....God made them work together so that she never complained about the treatments. On the way home I tried a new way home and ended up going way out of our way (almost an Hour extra). Carol didn't complain. When I finally figured out what I was doing wrong we both liked the new way to the cancer center much better.

A couple of weeks later, Carol had an appointment w. the dentist. I had switched Dentists in hopes that transferring to the dentist's chair would go better ( she was injuring her ankle at her former dentist). I told God that "I'm not good at helping Carol transfer" and He worked it so that Carol didn't even have to transfer! They even moved the dentist chair to make room for her chair!!

About a 1 1/2 weeks later we ate out (not take out) at Isaac's, the 1st time in about a year!! Afterward we both forgot to take home the left overs. When I went back later that afternoon they were expecting me.

Last week, at Carol's regular Dr check-up he ordered a sonogram to check for blood clots in her legs (another transfer w/o grab bars). This time God used one of my suggestions that enabled the nurses to get Carol, who is deftly afraid of falling w/o something solid to hang on to, from her wheel chair to the bed (w/o a Hoyer lift). We don't look forward to repeating that experience any time soon!!

Experiencing God's Goodness,

Steve
