Journal entry by Justene Garner

On July 31, 2019, our beloved Carla Mae was healed from cancer as she entered Heaven and joined both her Dad, Victor, and her Heavenly Father. In her usual speedy style, she accomplished God’s mission for her life faster than the rest of us and made it to the finish line first at the young age of 60.

Carla was born in Billings on June 8, 1959, to Victor and Loretta (Gustin) Frank where she was the 3rd of seven siblings. Her zest for life, mischievous spirit, and love for entertaining kept all her siblings and cousins on their toes and laughing their way through their childhood. In September 1984, Carla went on a blind date where she met her best friend and love of her life, Mike Oberg. Four months later they were engaged, and on July 29, 1985, they were married. For 36 years, they were each other’s teammate, encourager, supervisor, prayer warrior, and problem-fixer. Their individual strengths and weaknesses perfectly complimented each other, and they made the other person the best version of themselves. Aside from her husband, her greatest loves were her three children: Jarred, Justene, and Jonah. Her family was her everything, and she both spoiled her family and raised them to be strong. She was each one’s biggest fan, and she steadfastly prayed and stood by each of them through life’s joys and trials. She was the closest things to God’s grace and unconditional love that we will ever experience. Her joy was made complete when she became a grandma to Cid Danger. He put the “who’s mom’s favorite kid” argument forever to rest.

For the past 21 years, Carla has been the Greenhouse Manager at the Special K Ranch. She had a true gift working with plants and always said she felt like a kid in a candy store. All of the residents and staff truly adored her, especially when she would bring treats which was often. As great as she was with her job, her true passion was serving and loving others. She was the hands and feet of God in so many people’s lives, and she loved investing in others and helping them in any way possible. God blessed her with an unending amount of energy and love. She always had fresh baked treats to share, a house to host, and a hug to give. No task was ever a burden, and serving others brought her deep joy. She was a true prayer warrior, and her life goal was bringing honor to God’s name in all she did. We know without a doubt she heard the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

She was preceded in death by her father, Victor Frank, and brother-in-laws Tim and Pat Oberg. She is survived by her husband, Mike, her three children, Jarred (Katy), Justene (Bryan), and Jonah, her grandson, Cid, her mother, Loretta, in-laws, Clyde and Helen Oberg, siblings Gary (Lori), Belinda (Mike), Liane (Craig), Darin (Kim), Pam (Dan), and Kyle (Lori), sister-in-law Bonnie (Gerard), many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews, and the church body of Faith E.

A memorial service will be held at Faith Evangelical Church on August 9 at 11 am. Carla loved bright colors, and we ask that people dress in color to come celebrate her life with us. For those who cannot make it, the service will be live-streamed at https://faithe.org/streaming/. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Carla’s name to the Special K Ranch (P.O. Box 479, Columbus, MT, 59019) where she loved the residents and brought beauty to the world for 21 years.
