Carla’s Story

Site created on January 16, 2022

Many of you know I was diagnosed with AML (acute myeloid leukemia) in March 2021. My doctors at UW Hospital have treated me with a regimen of chemotherapy which has kept my cancer in check but will not eliminate it entirely unless I have a bone marrow transplant. The transplant team has chosen my daughter, Brenda as my primary donor and grandson, Logan is a back-up donor. I'm very thankful to have family members who volunteered to do this for me! Very soon I'll be admitted to UW Hospital for possibly 3-4 weeks. I'd sure appreciate your continued prayers for both my family and me. We will try to keep you up to date on my progress via Caring Bridge.

Journal entry by Brenda Gleason

Mom had a follow up bone marrow biopsy procedure last week. They ran LOTS of tests to confirm that the new transplanted cells are happy and producing cells.  It was confirmed that she is in ‘Deep Remission’ = all healthy cells, no signs of leukemia.   Let’s celebrate this incredible milestone!
