Carine’s Story

Site created on March 7, 2021

For the people that have asked how they can help out, go to the "ways to help" link, there are meal train and  gofundme sites setup.  🎗🎗🎗Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. 🎗🎗🎗 Recently, Carrie was diagnosed with sinonasal carcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer that occurs in the sinuses.  It was diagnosed when Carrie started experiencing double vision due to the tumor pressing on the muscles behind the eye.   She has been receiving treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.  They have successfully destroyed the tumor but have found that the cancer has spread. Carrie continues chemotherapy until a plan to add radiation or surgery is finalized. Thank you to all our friends and family for their continued support during this trying time in our lives.

Journal entry by carine bajda

The busy weeks continue as I finished my last radiation session on Monday. I had five sessions that treated both my right chest wall (lung) and my left kidney. During the kidney zapping I needed to be in just the right spot so I had to hold my breath as they instructed. I think I did okay and was informed that the kidney was already reacting positively with the treatment. Usually they aren’t really able to see an improvement until after the actual radiation is over. This coming week I have a post op for my left eye, a day at Mayo including bloodwork, a Dr. visit, and infusions (chemo and immunotherapy) my friend Linda is bringing me😀.  I was scheduled two days in a row in Rochester but I called them every day to see if there was a cancellation and I received a call yesterday that they were able to get me in for everything on Tuesday. Very thankful to not have chemo on my birthday. Last year I had radiation on my birthday, I wouldn’t advise it. Pick the cake and ice cream, not the chemo!!! Then I have cataract surgery on my right eye and the day after, another checkup. The week continues with Saturday, two celebrations of life to try and attend. This may be impossible for me to tackle and I am going to try but I believe they will be on opposite sides of the cities.
Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near. So loved, so missed, and held so dear. Rest in peace dear Liz and Uncle Al. 🙏❤️
