Newest Update

Journal entry by Cara McClain

Hi all! Cara here. This is likely the last update post that will be shared here which is great news! I am right around 2.5 months post-op and doing well. The last month has been filled with lots of progress and both good and bad days dealing with headaches that seem to come at random throughout the healing process. About two weeks ago I was dealing with some pretty intense headaches that would wake me up in the night and oftentimes last throughout the day. I had my 2 month post-op appointment with my surgeon in the midst of those headaches and he ordered an MRI which I had last Friday. As of yesterday, according to my surgeon, my MRI is clear! He says that everything looks great and that my brain has plenty of space for fluid to flow around it which should keep headaches and dizziness from occurring. The surgery was successful in that way. I have also been feeling better this past week and haven't had one of those intense headaches in over a week. Yay!

I've been cleared to exercise as long as I start off slowly. I have already started back with yoga and stretching in addition to my daily walks. Over the next few weeks I am excited to start incorporating running, biking, and some weightlifting in addition to my Physical Therapy (which is twice a week). I can feel myself getting stronger and having more energy and as I keep saying- it is so nice to feel human again. There are now so many things about the human experience- from daily tasks to exercise that I will never take for granted because of all that I was unable to do over the past few months.

I am also in the clear to go back to Spain and get to work! I am looking to head back in the next 3 or so weeks and join my team for the last few months of our semester. While I am sad to leave the family, friends, and followers that have encouraged me throughout recovery, I am ready to be back in Salamanca. There really aren't adequate words to thank each of you for keeping me in your thoughts and prayers over the past months. Thank you. Please continue to think of me as I continue working towards complete healing and head back to Spain in the next month.

God Bless,
Cara
