The Bonilla’s… high school sweethearts who welcomed their first child Sebastian in 2009 and were over the moon in love with him and decided shortly after to start trying for another child to complete their family but unfortunately getting pregnant a second time proved very difficult but they kept their faith that one day they would be blessed again. 12 long years later in 2021 they were finally blessed with a beautiful healthy baby girl they named Camila.

Camila has been a true miracle bringing so much joy to her family. She has the greatest smile, strong will and sassiness. Even with a 12 year age gap Camila and Sebastian have been inseparable. They absolutely adore each other. Camila celebrated her 2nd birthday in July and a couple weeks later the Bonilla’s went on a family beach trip. The Bonilla’s were so happy and got to enjoy those wonderful moments making memories with their two beautiful children. Everything seemed so perfect.

Unfortunately, a week after returning home Camila stopped eating, developed a small cough and her stomach was bloated. Immediately her mother knew something was wrong and took her to the doctors several times but was sent home with no answers. Then her mother noticed a lump on her neck and returned to the doctors and refused to leave knowing something was not right with Camila. The doctor instructed them to go straight to children’s hospital at Fairfax. Camila received numerous tests and CT scans finding several tumors. Camila was admitted to the hospital and received her first surgery to collect samples from the tumors for testing. After a long agonizing weekend waiting on results Camilla was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma.

Camila would need to start chemo immediately and the initial treatment would be at least 5 rounds of chemo with 3 weeks in between each one, radiation, surgery and bone marrow transplant all over the next year or so! Devastation, Heartbreak, confusion, anger, helplessness all words that only begin to describe the feelings and emotions that the Bonilla’s are experiencing! Feelings their family and friends are experiencing.

The Bonilla’s have had to face what has happened and try be strong for their children. Praying constantly for God’s grace.

Camila received her first round of chemo at the end of August and was allowed to go home for a few weeks but visitors are not allowed because of her immune system being weak from the chemo. Sadly Camila developed a fever and had to return to the hospital the following week and her platelets were low. She is currently still in the hospital.

We have started this page to centralize a place to keep everyone updated on Camila’s situation.

In addition, we would like to start raising funds to help the Bonilla’s with all the medical bills and expenses that are about to flood their mailbox. Please use Cash App or Venmo. PLEASE DO NOT CLICK THE "DONATE TO CaringBridge" AS THOSE FUNDS DO NOT GO TO CAMILA THEY GO TO THIS WEBSITE.

A message from Veronica Bonilla….

Our family has been hit with an unfortunate disease of Neuroblastoma Cancer that is affecting our two year old, Camila. This is a long hard battle we have ahead of us and are praying to beat and with our faith in God, come out winning. Our Camila shouldn’t have to be strong and brave at such a tender age and we are trying as a family to stay strong for her! We just want our strong, independent and fierce baby girl back to us. We need her more than she needs us! We appreciate any donations and prayers for our miracle baby girl.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers!

#CamilaStrong Update:

After Camila's bone marrow transplant she was doing well but things unfortunately didn't stay that way. Camila is struggling and has had 3 very high fevers, diarrhea, mucositis and has been in severe pain. The doctors are currently treating her pain with morphine. This time has turned out much harder than the first. Since Camila's ANC is at 0, she doesn't have any antibodies to fight so her body is running high fevers. Today she received blood and platelets to help bring her counts up.

Prayer warriors Camila needs all the prayers you can give. Please pray for her to regain her warrior strength to beat this! Please also pray for her mommy who is with her having to watch her baby girl endure this and pray for her family at home waiting for Camila to pull through this!
