Caitlyn’s Story

Site created on October 13, 2022

On Monday, October 3, 2022, Cait, 14 and a high school freshman, went for an ultrasound of the abdomen, for what was supposed to be the first of a series of GI tests to figure out stomach and digestive issues that had been getting progressively worse. What they found were multiple tumors in her abdomen. Pathology showed they have a very rare type of cancer called desmoplastic small round cell tumors (DSRCT). There are only 200 known cases since the discovery of this type of cancer in 1989.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Joanne Gara

It’s been a while since there’s been a Cait update   Cait is still in the hospital. One of the things keeping her here is the wound vac that is helping close the surgical incision. It continues to make progress, but since the dressings need to be changed every four days or so, we remain here until they can close it. In the meantime, a great organization called Deck My Room provided some decorations to make the hospital stay a little cozier. The therapy dogs visit and that puts a smile on all our faces. Cait is painting and crafting to occupy her time.

Hello!!!- Cait :)

Please accept my apology if you’ve reached out to me and I haven’t responded. I truly appreciate everyone’s concern and generosity to our family over the past several months.
