Baby Caden's fight against Acute Myeloid Leukemia  & Bone Marrow Transplant - Daily updates for family and friends

Newest Update

Journal entry by Vanessa Gurevich

Happy Transplant/ 3rd Re-birthday  to our warrior baby Caden!!!💛 Day + 1,094

It feels surreal to say Caden is 3 years cancer free today.

We had clinic yesterday and  we are so lucky that we had access to lab results the same day instead of having to wait a few days which was an absolute blessing so that I wouldn't spiral as today's big milestone day approached.

Even after not being fully recovered from an awful stomach virus this last week, his labs look absolutely beautiful.

We are so indescribably thankful for today- for Cadens healthy beautiful life. A true miracle our little boy is.

Other pertinent clinic updates are that Caden is in the 45%-ile for weight and 50%-ile for his height. We are really happy with these numbers- its taken us a long time to get here!

Caden has been transferred to the "Long Term Survivorship Clinic". We will still have clinic and labs every 3 months. The only thing that will really change as a result of this new classification is that we will have longer appointment times and discussions with his team going over every chemo and  dose that was given throughout his life and looking at every body system in detail that could be affected in the long-term that he may need additional testing for such as: endocrine health (i.e.thyroid) , growth hormone assessments, bone density, cardiac health, pulmonary function, hearing, cognitive effects, fertility etc. Certain chemotherapies that Caden received have higher risks for what is called "late effects" based on the dose he received and the frequency of which he received these medications . It would be so nice to say that once the chemo is infused and done ,that it is no longer an a threat to the patients body- but this is unfortunately not the case.

Its as they say, there is a whole other world and side of things after cancer- so we will take it one step at a time and make sure we are anticipating possible effects in his future. Please keep Caden in your continued prayers that he doesn't ever have to encounter any of these effects -and that it is all left in the past.

I never thought I would be writing to you all three years later especially when I wondered how we would survive day after day in the eye of the storm. What a few years it has been. Thank you for continuing to be here, and for cheering Caden on through every victory.  Thank you for every prayer and positive thought, that I know so many of you continue to send his way. I really do believe that this mountain of love that has been built for our son has a lot to do with how we got here.

Caden's Next appointment will be February 29th, and I will update you all after that clinic visit. We will have some maintenance visits  (dentists, vision etc) in between- but hopefully smooth sailing until our next clinic appointment.

Thank you for being here -from the bottom of my heart, and  for helping me to believe that miracles do happen.
