Butch’s Story

Site created on February 22, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your prayers, support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most.

This is the page for Butch Wagner, the guy who graduated from Buena Regional High School in New Jersey too many years ago.  The same person who has a self-proclaimed man-crush on Mike Trout (now that Derek Jeter retired).  Butch follows Mike's illustrious career, as well as the hometown Atlanta Braves.  Butch spends his days supporting the Legal Team at Home Depot, and he likes to spend weekends with his family and friends at Lake Sinclair.   Butch and Carol have been married 31 years, and Butch's three kids are Allyson, David, and Cason.

Friday, January 15, 2018 is the day that everything changed.  Everything seemed normal, but Butch finally gave in to the recommendations to have a routine colonoscopy done (which he now highly recommends for everyone).  They found something that didn't belong.  They were pretty sure that the tumor on his colon was cancer.  The doctors also were pretty confident that it could be removed.  After more tests, the Wagner family learned on January 24 that Butch has stage IV cancer that has progressed to his liver.  The general plan is to treat it with aggressive chemotherapy and look to operate on the tumor down the road.

Butch and family need help from the one Who gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.  Isaiah 40.  He has blessed them with supernatural peace during the early part of this roller coaster ride, but they are just beginning.  Indications are that it was discovered early, before he experienced symptoms, which would help the prognosis greatly.  We will update this page so that friends and family can get the latest news during this new journey.  The continued prayer requests are pretty obvious: healing, wisdom (including agreement in diagnosis and treatment by his doctors), peace, and strength as the treatments begin.  Thanks for supporting us and may God bless you.

Journal entry by Ken Barr

Praise God for His protection of David through this serious accident!

I am thrilled that Carol reported that David was able to go home late yesterday, and that he seems to be doing very well now.  He is sleeping a lot, and they are keeping a close eye on him, but all looks good.  The man regenerated over 70% of his donated liver in a couple of weeks, so it takes a lot to keep him down.  Still, this one was really scary.

Carol is so thankful for everyone who prayed for David throughout this ordeal.  The prayers for peace and wisdom in treatment and especially healing were heard and the Wagners were not alone in this.  May God bless all of you for your gracious support.
