Journal entry by John & Diane Histand —
Bryce went for Loop Illiostomy reversal surgery on Mon, April 22. It was a day of delays. It was like watching the board at the airport, and we found delay after delay. We know this happens, so you wait it out. It was nice to have one of my neices and her little girls come sit with us for awhile. They saw Bryce before he went for surgery, unfortunately he waited a long time alone.
Bryce was admitted following surgery, and got to his room around 7:00 pm. We all got to see him settled in then John, Krista and Janeen left for home. Tues was a good day, Bryce was up and walked and had minimal pain. Wed afternoon Bryce was discharged, about the time of discharge, he started feeling rough. We were glad to be discharged as this was the worst inpatient experience Bryce has ever had. We could not pin point the problem, but there seemed to be something amiss with the leadership of this floor that rippled down to the patient. This was his 5th hospital stay and was on a different floor every time. The trip home was kind of rough, but after a plea for prayer went out to church friends, he was able to sleep for the remainder of the trip.
So far recovery has had it's rough days, and times. We keep praying for healing and adjustment in his body as it/he adapts to yet another change.
Over the weekend, following Bryce's surgery Krista, Chantel and I sang with a choir for a weekend festival of music. While John and Janeen stayed at home with Bryce. Various songs spoke words of comfort to my heart but the one I appareciated the most was
YET NOT I, BUT CHRIST IN ME
What gift of grace is Jesus my redeemer, There is no more for heaven now to give. He is my joy, my righteousness and freedom My steadfast love, my deep and boundless peace. To this I hold my hope is only Jesus For my life is fully bound in His. O how strange and divine I can sing "All is mine"
Yet not I, but through Christ in me
The night is dark but I am not forsaken For by my side, the Saviour He will stay, I labour on in weakness and rejoicing For in my need, His power is displayed. To this I hold, my Shepherd will defend me Through the deepest valley He will lead Oh the night has been won, and I shall overcome.
Yet not I, but through Christ in me
No fate I dread, I know I am forgiven The future sure the price it has been paid. For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon. And He was raised to overthrow the grave. To this I hold my sin has been defeated Jesus now and ever is my plea. Oh the chains are released, I can sing "I am free"
Yet not I, but through Christ in me.
With every breath I long to follow Jesus. For He has said that He will bring me home. And day by day I know He will renew me. Until I stand in joy before the throne. To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus, All the glory evermore to Him. When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat.
Yet not I, but through Christ in me
